In 1826, the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) was established with the aim of creating a collection of animals for scientific research. Architect Decimus Burton designed the Zoological Gardens, which opened to ZSL members in 1828, featuring a variety of animals such as monkeys, bears, kangaroos, and zebras. To support its funding, the gardens welcomed the public in 1847, shortly after introducing several pioneering attractions, including the first reptile house in 1849, the first public aquarium in 1853, and the first insect house in 1881.
For over a decade, we have had the privilege of collaborating with ZSL, providing them with some of our most sought-after products. Initially, they approached us to address queue management at their entrance, leading to the installation of our retractable barrier system, featuring stainless steel posts and blue tape that extends 2.3 meters in width for indoor or outdoor queuing. More recently, we supplied our Rustic Character Oak Wooden Rope Posts paired with Polyhemp Barrier Rope, a combination that has become a favourite within our Traditional Posts & Rope range. We eagerly anticipate future projects together in the coming years.
